Montville Township is located in eastern Morris County, NJ, covering just over 19 square miles. In 2009, Money magazine named Montville the 21st best place to live in the United States - the 2nd highest ranked town in New Jersey.
Montville (07045) is easily accessible to Interstate 80 and 287 offering a quick commute to Manhattan, Morristown, Newark and other employment hubs.
The community offers many suburban neighborhoods and still retains a rural country atmosphere. Two sections include: Towaco (07082) and Pine Brook (07058). Towaco, which has a train station and bus service to NYC, is a small village located on the Township's northern end. Pine Brook, located in the Township's southern end, borders the retail and commercial centers along Route 46 where there is convenient bus service to NYC. The Passaic River borders Montville to the east. Other communities, localities and place names located partially or completely within the township include Horse Neck Bridge, Lake Valhalla, Lower Montville, Pine Brook, Taylortown, Towaco and White Hall. Major routes that pass through include Interstate 287 and U.S. Route 202 in the north, and both Interstate 80 and U.S. Route 46 in the south. Both interstates houses interchanges in the township.
As part of its Midtown Direct expansion program, New Jersey Transit, with supplemental funding from the Township of Montville, renovated the Towaco Train Station using a design hearkening back to the early 1900s. Commuters travel from Towaco to Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan via a transfer in Montclair through Newark to Manhattan.
Lakeland Bus Lines offers service along Route 46 between Dover and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan and along Route 80 between Newton and New York City. Montville has a train station in Towaco on the NJ Transit Montclair-Boonton Line which offers service to Hoboken Terminal. Passengers can transfer to another train or bus before Hoboken for a Midtown Manhattan commute. At Hoboken Terminal, passengers can switch to the PATH to reach NYC. Lakeland Bus Lines provides service from Pine Brook in Montville to NY Port Authority Terminal in Midtown. During rush hour, the bus ride takes about 40 minutes.
